Mishpatim - Judgments

Check Out Your Auto Insurance

These Judgments are used today in courts of tort and civil law. All insurance contracts follow these laws of personal injury and property damage. I knew all these laws from my insurance career. Seeing them in Torah is amazing. This is where the laws originated. Just look at the auto insurance policy and see how it follows Torah. The contract conditions regarding bodily injury, property damage, medical payments, pain and suffering, and loss of ability to work are all in the insurance policy and all in Torah.

Maimonides writes, “A person should aim to maintain physical health and vigor, in order that their soul may be upright, in a condition to know God. For it is impossible for one to understand sciences and meditate upon them when he is hungry or sick, or when any of his limbs is aching.” The Rambam defined exercise as “vigorous or gentle movement, or a combination of the two.”

Hatha yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly postures understood as physical exercises and accompanied with deep breathing. It is a stress-reducing practice.
